IT'S NOT WHAT'S TRUE THAT MATTERS. IT'S WHAT YOU BELIEVE.

Posted on December 2020
In the words of Ghandi, it’s not the thought but the belief behind the thought that stimulates the actions.

“Your beliefs become your thoughts, Your thoughts become your words, Your words become your actions, Your actions become your habits, Your habits become your values, Your values become your destiny.”

What we believe isn’t necessarily true. In fact our beliefs and thoughts can be downright liars. And if that wasn't mean enough, what we believe becomes our reality. So If you believe you can never ever be happy without a million dollars in your bank account, then you won’t be. It's not the truth, because we all know many people are happy without a million dollars. It’s your belief that makes you believe it to be true.

Change starts with challenging our beliefs.

If what we BELIEVE to be true is what really matters and this ends up being what we act on - good or bad, then we need to make sure what we believe is a positive thing. This is what influences our lives, our relationships and all of our decisions. Beliefs can steer us off course and aren’t always right, or helpful, or healthy or even wise. This is the fly in our ointment. We all to varying degrees have biases and beliefs that really don't serve us well.

Imagine what could happen if we thought and believed differently?

If you want to change something about yourself or about your life, forget looking out there or at someone else to make it better. Ask yourself what if I thought differently? How could new beliefs impact my world and the relationships around me? What if I gave myself permission to think and believe differently?

What are you thinking that thinking can’t change?

Beliefs can change. So can thinking. Challenge them to see if they're really true or not or just something that you're holding on to as a way to protect yourself from something. It becomes a reason or an excuse based on not so good past events. Maybe you believe things to always be a certain way because it always happened in the past. We drag our old world and wounds into our future.

But what if beliefs were based on a clean slate of expansion and love instead of fear? As leaders of our own lives and leaders in the community, don't we owe this to ourselves?

Rumi says to pass your thoughts through these questions before acting on them:

Is it true?

Is it kind?

Is it necessary?

Imagine the world we could live in if everyone did this? Imagine how one life, your life would become richer if you asked this of thoughts and your beliefs?

You are what you believe. Change the belief. Change the thought. It changes the feeling and that... changes your world.

Peace out
